Review: Montreal Foodie

Mythos is a great old standby. We go when we just want to munch on some good appetizers like saganaki kefalotyri, horiatiki and grilled octopus. The atmosphere is always lively, particularly if you are downstairs on a weekend when they have a live band and everyone gets up and dances. Good outside terrasse in the summertime. We always leave satisfied.
Price: Not very expensive ($40 per person, with beer and house wine included) if you simply have a series of appetizers as your meal. Gets expensive quickly if you order mains – particularly the fish – although it doesn’t come up to the prices of Milos across the street.
Beer: Mythos (the beer) in a bottle

Greek “estratorio” – basically Greek tapas with a good selection of fish for mains. We just had a large selection of hot and cold tapas as a meal. Several – horiatiki (greek salad) and fried holoumi – were good, a few – the feta and spinach dumplings and the octopus marinated in retsina – were excellent. The music was a bit loud, but otherwise the atmosphere was nice, open and airy.
Price: As long as you just order the tapas and are looking to have a light meal, its not too expensive ($40 per person before beer/wine). Start ordering mains, particularly the fish, then it would get expensive quickly (fish prices looked like $30-50 per pound and like Milos, you buy the whole fish: 1-3 pounds)
Beer: Alpha – a nice, light Greek ale.
