Limon is a Mexican resto on Notre Dame, just across the street from Joe Beef. We visited on a warm night and, having booked a reservation, managed to snag a table outdoors. First mistake: their patio must be awfully close to the garbage, as we kept getting nasty whiffs all through dinner. Sitting inside would have been a better choice. The food here was middling to fair. Better than Taco Hell, but not top notch and not worth the price point they are gunning for. The guacamole was okay, but the enchiladas were soggy and oversauced. As expected, the salsa verde hit 1 on my chile-o-meter (which goes to 11), but I don’t that expect that in this town (this isn’t southern California, after all). I didn’t hear glowing reviews about the fish being eaten across the table, although there weren’t any big complaints either. The service was pretty spotty as well… twice I had to re-order a beer (out of a total of two beers), and both times the waitress didn’t really seem to care that I was sitting without a drink when everyone else was having something. If you go, also make sure that its not someones birthday, as they like to blast “Happy Birthday” at insane levels. Thankfully it only lasted 20 seconds. Overall, its probably an okay place if you’re not expecting much and you’re in the neighborhood (or if they lost your reservation at Joe Beef), but its probably not worth seeking it out from afar.
Price: Somewhat expensive for what you get: $95 for two, taxes/tip incl., with a couple of pints of beer and a few glasses of wine.
Beer: Bierbrier on tap.
