For me, ShoDan is one of the better sushi restos in Montreal. There is no place in this city that has the quality of sushi that you get in Vancouver, San Fransisco or Los Angeles, and ShoDan is no exception. Where they excel is in their creativity. The secret to ShoDan is to get the list of specials and order from that. You will get all kinds of interesting rolls, some hot, some cold, each done with delicate flavours and in combinations that work yet are not found at other sushi shops. The only problem with the specials menu is that there are no descriptions… its a total crapshoot as to what you are ordering. Either ask the server to go through each one or just pick a few interesting names and see what comes your way.
Update: On a recent return visit, they now have a full description of all specials. The mystery is now gone from ordering from the specials list. That can be either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view.
Price: $35-100 per person depending on how much you order and how much beer and sake you drink.
Beer: Sapporo in a tall can or bottle
