Jim’s-Semi-Meta-Montreal-Resto-Review-Weblog

Under $50 List

Part of the inspiration for this blog was to list restos which would be suitable for our business dinners. We have a $50 limit per head with tax and tip included – which is easy if you go to a pub, but gets harder if you want to have a nice meal in a place with a good atmosphere. Below are restos that fit in this category. Bullets are colour coded the same as the resto map (i.e. green=recommended, yellow=so-so, red=not recommended)

Easily under $50:
Justine
Grenadine
Bitoque
Pintxo
Au Bistro Gourmet – As long as everyone doesn’t get the more expensive table d’hote and care is taken with the wine.
La Trattoria
Alep
Brasserie Brunoise
Limon
L’Academie
Alex H
Le P’tit Plateau
La Colombe

Under $50 if you watch what you order:
ShoDan
Mythos – Suitable if you don’t order main plates
Trinity – Tougher than Mythos to get under $50
Leméac and Laloux – A close call: I’ve spent $80 for two and I’ve spent $500 for four at Leméac. Can be done if everyone eats from the cheaper end of the menu, perhaps one or two people don’t order appetizers and drinks and desserts are kept to a minimum.
Julien – Under $50 is possible as long as everyone orders from the table d’hote.
Chez le Portugais
La Montée – At $15 per plate, doable for under $50 if everyone goes for only two plates and one/two drinks.

Easily under $50 but perhaps a bit informal for business dinners:
Sala Rosa
M:Brgr
Garage Cafe
Bonny’s
Pasta Casareccia
Brasseurs de Montreal

Other possible under $50 locations (not yet reviewed – so no guarantees on quality or price – except as noted)
Au Petit Extra – have eaten here in the past… great food. Not sure if it is still <$50

Yoyo (4720 Marquette Street, (514) 524-4187) BYOB
les Heritiers (5091, rue de Lanaudière, (514) 528-4953) BYOB
L’Express (3927 Saint-Denis, 845-5333) – the classic french bistro – can’t remember if its under $50 but it certainly isn’t too expensive
Sans Menu (3714 Notre-Dame O, (514) 933-4782) – good food – price is close to $50 – depends on wine choice
Phayathai (1235 Guy, (514) 933-9949) – good thai – easily under $50
La Prunelle (327 avenue Duluth Est, (514) 849-8403) BYOB
